Looking into the mirror of life demands courage – especially when society has taught you to look away. For those who've learned to make themselves smaller, who've tucked away their truth to survive, or who feel like they're living life from the outside looking in: I see you. Whether you're struggling with body image, carrying the weight of grief, or navigating life's transitions, I understand how overwhelming it feels to face these challenges while feeling invisible.
Many of us have become experts at the 'doing' of life, building fortresses of busyness to protect ourselves from the pain beneath. But like a beach ball pushed underwater, those buried emotions inevitably surge to the surface, often when we least expect them. Through both personal and professional experience, I've learned that healing begins when we find a space safe enough to be fully ourselves – a place where our whole story can unfold without judgment.
At Here's a Starting Point, PLLC, I offer individual therapy that acknowledges the complexity of your experience. Whether you're reconciling with your body's story, processing grief, navigating adolescence, or standing at the threshold of change, my approach centers on authenticity, deep connection, and radical self-compassion. In our sessions, you'll find space to reflect, grow, laugh, and yes – cry when you need to. My role is to help you feel secure enough to face life's challenges with grace and courage, recognizing that your survival itself is an act of triumph. As Lucille Clifton powerfully reminds us, we celebrate that "whatever has tried to take your life has failed."
Understanding that some journeys are best walked together, I offer specialized group experiences:
Black Woman's Sabbath
A sacred space for Black women to exhale, this restorative group honors the revolutionary act of rest. Here, we explore boundaries, embrace stillness, and reclaim our right to peace in a world that often demands our constant motion.
The Repass
More than a grief support group, The Repass is a gathering space for souls learning to carry their losses. Through mindfulness practices and communal support, we honor our grief while discovering paths toward healing.
Mental Health Workshops for Adolescents and Parents
These culturally-relevant workshops bridge the generation gap, providing tools for emotional literacy and authentic communication. We create safe harbors for families to navigate difficult conversations and strengthen their bonds.
My practice weaves together evidence-based techniques with the wisdom of faith, mindfulness, and the healing power of music. As a Brainspotting practitioner, I offer specialized support for processing deep emotional pain and trauma. Whether working with body image issues, adolescent challenges, anxiety, depression, or grief, I create space for both healing and joy – understanding that sometimes these seemingly opposite experiences dance together in the same moment.
Beyond my private practice, I partner with schools, churches, and community organizations to develop mental health programs that speak to the heart of each community's needs. Through workshops, staff training, and speaking engagements, I help build environments where emotional wellness can flourish. My trauma-informed, culturally responsive curricula provide practical tools while honoring the unique experiences and strengths of each community.
